Why to Love Aerie

Just in case you didn't already know, I'm an employee of American Eagle Outfitters. I love my job. It is one of the most rewarding jobs I've ever had. I had never really shopped there until I worked there, but since 2006, I really began to like it. That was when the "Aerie" line was established. Aerie is a sub-brand of AE and it consists of:

-bras -undies -boxer shorts (for girls) -robes -socks -slippers -camis - sweats -leggings -accessories -pj's/sleepwear -lounge wear

And everything is super soft with cotton blends and various cotton knits.
Women's Wear Daily of August 2006 said, "According to company executives, the brand could reach $500 million in sales by 2010." By 2012, Aerie could be a 350+ store chain! Beth A. Barney, spokeswoman for AE, said, "There was such a great customer reaction to the brand, we decided t accelerate the expansion of it." Gals, there's something you should know. I have done some research and discovered the answer to all our concerns about those special occassions and what to wear...underneath. There are 7 bras that will set you up for life according to the Victoria's Secret website.

  • Full coverage

  • Push up

  • Demi

  • Wireless

  • T-shirt

  • Racerback

  • Convertible

Now that seems like a lot. Here's the catch: get more than one of these features in a single bra.
Aerie currently features 10 bra styles. The KATIE bra is a full coverage bra and some feature lace for that sweetly sexy kick. The PAIGE is a demi push up that comes in smooth microfiber fabric as well as cotton. The SASHA is a demi plunge bra that comes in smooth microfiber fabric and some come with lace. The ABIGAIL is a push up strapless convertible. The AUDREY is also a convertible but without the push up effect. The ISABEL is an uplifting balconette demi. The HANNAH (my fave) is a cotton demi bra with a hook to make it racerback or normal two-strap. Now it also comes in smooth microfiber fabric. Lastly, we just got in the EMMA which is an extreme air push up that bumps you a full cup size and it looks great under v-neck ts. There are also seamfree bras including bandeaus and bralettes; these are nearly all unlines or with removable inserts.
Older bras consist of a full coverage t-shirt bra called Lucy, a strapless called Sophie, a wireless racerback called the Sarah bra and the Elle bra (I have no idea what Elle was, it's before my time at AE).

Now Aerie has included a line of fitness wear called, Aerie Fit, which includes

-leggings -shorts -sports bras -wind stoppers -other exercise apparel and accessories.

These products are all made with Aerie Fit Sweat Free Fabric. Cool!

According to Betsy Schumacher, chief merchandising officer for Aerie, "Working out is important to the Aerie customer, so offering a fitness line is a natural way to complete her lifestyle" (2007).

Aerie also has a foot into the cosmetics door with lip glosses, lip stain, and face shimmer. Along with body products like lotions, splashes, shower gels, and candle. And oh my gosh, they are awesome. Nothing is tested on animals and are enriched with stuff like jojoba oil, shea butter, beeswax, ivy leaf/stem extract, glycerine, mango seed butter, and meadow foam seed oil. And the scents!

Aerie Blushing - warm bergamont, musky sandalwood, and oakmoss. This gives off a spicey, musky, sensual scent.

Aerie Feeling - delicate bouquet of rose, iris, and peony. This gives off a fresh, floral, earthy scent.

Aerie Sharing - juicy blend of apple, peach, and red current. This gives off a light friuty scent. And is my personal fave.

Aerie blackberry jasmine - an infusion of blackberry, jasmine, and amber.

Aerie mango - an energetic blend of mango, peach, and honeysuckle.

Aerie mandarin blossom - a sweet array of mandarin, apple, and freesia.

Aerie Fine Fragrance - sandalwood, musk, jasmine, blue freesia, flowering quince, and green apple.

Emma Fragrance - plum aples, violoets, and warm amber.

Fabrication of Aerie products: What's it made of?

COTTON- Cotton is a natural fiber harvested from the cotton plant. Cotton is in the mallow family and produces delicate, lovely flowers. Other members of the mallow family include hollyhocks and hibiscus. Cotton can be woven or knitted. It can also be turned into flannel, corduroy, muslin, and much more. Cotton is hypoallergenic and dust-mite resistant, which means is the best choice of material for people who suffer from asthma or allergies, or those who have sensitive skin prone to irritation. Natural fabrics such as cotton clothing allow for better air circulation, which helps remove and absorb body moisture, drawing heat away from the skin and keeping the body cool and dry. Versatile and long-lasting. Cotton is the only fiber that becomes stronger when wet, and it's the preferred choice in hospitals, since it can endure high temperatures and be sterilized. Cotton clothing is the ideal wash-and-wear fabric. Cotton clothing is inexpensive, durable, and easy to care for. For people concerned with environmental issues, cotton clothing makes a lot of sense. Cotton is biodegradable and a renewable resource. During processing, less than 10 percent of it is lost or deemed non-usable. Organic cotton clothing is even better: no pesticides are used to grow it, which means less chemicals in the environment and less exposure for the people growing it. Buying organic cotton clothing in the United States also supports local industry, as the United States and Turkey are the top two producers of organic cotton in the world. Cotton is somewhat flammable, especially lighter cottons that hold a lot of air. (wisegeek.com). – AERIE – Bras: Hannah and Paige cotton. Undies: boybriefs, boyshorts, bikinis, thongs, hipsters, tangas, cheekys. Camis. T-shits. Boxer shorts. Sweats. Hoodies. Sweaters. Dorm pants. Pajamas. Nighties. Cover-ups. Socks.

MODAL- Modal is a processed bio-based textile made from reconstituted cellulose from the beech tree. Modal is considered a type of rayon. While rayon may be made of the wood pulp of a number of different trees, modal uses only beechwood. Modal is considered bio-based rather than natural because, though the raw materials used to make it are natural, they are heavily processed using a number of chemicals. Modal is soft, smooth and breathes well. Its texture is similar to that of cotton or silk. It is cool to the touch and very absorbent. One of the advantages of modal over cotton is its resistance to shrinkage, a notorious problem with cotton. Modal is also less likely to fade or to form pills as a result of friction. Its smoothness also makes hard water deposits less likely to adhere to the surface, so the fabric stays soft through repeated washings. Modal drapes well and keeps its shape, even when wet. In order to keep them looking best, pure modal products should be ironed after washing. This may not be necessary for modal fabric blends, however. (Wisegeek.com). – AERIE – Undies: tangas, thongs. Camis. Nighties.

RAYON - Rayon is one of the most peculiar fabrics in commercial use today. It is not an artificial (synthetic) fiber, because it is derived from naturally occurring cellulose. However, it is not a natural fiber, because cellulose requires extensive processing to become rayon. Thus it is a semi-synthetic fiber [1]. Generally classified as a manufactured regenerated cellulosic fiber.. Rayon is known by the names viscose rayon and art silk in the textile industry. It usually has a high luster quality giving it a bright shine. Rayon contains the chemical elements carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. (Wisegeek.com). – AERIE –

Spandex/Lycra®/ elastane - Lycra® is a type of stretch fiber, or spandex, that is a registered trademark of Invista, formerly DuPont. It is the most recognized and popular brand of spandex throughout the world. It consists of polymer chains with rigid and flexible portions, allowing the fiber both to stretch significantly and to retain its shape. Lycra® has a number of advantages besides being able to stretch: it’s lightweight, comfortable, and breathable. It is quick drying and dyes very well, and it is resistant to bacteria, ultraviolet (UV) rays, chlorine, static cling, and pilling. Though stretch fabrics are not as durable as fabrics without spandex, Lycra® is the most durable alternative, offering a great improvement over rubber. (wisegeek.com). – AERIE – bras: Audrey, Sasha, Katie, Paige and Paige cotton, Isabel, Hannah smooth and cotton. Undies: boybriefs, boyshorts, tangas, cheekys, bikinis, thongs, hipsters.

NYLON- Nylon is a synthetic fabric made from petroleum products. It was developed in the 1930s as an alternative to silk; valued for its light weight, incredible tensile strength, durability, flexibility, and resistance to damage. It also takes dye easily, making nylon fabrics available in a wide array of colors. Nylon is very sensitive to heat and should be washed and dried on cool settings. Nylon can also be hung dry. (wisegeek.com). – AERIE – bras: Audrey, Sasha, Katie, Paige, Isabel, Hannah smooth. Undies: tangas, cheekys, bikins, thongs.

Microfiber - microfiber material absorbs moisture and oils rather than allow them to set on the surface of the material. However, it is important to note that microfiber material will pick up dust and lint and absorb it. This means that it ideal to wash the microfiber after each use. While the use of microfiber for clothing has been around for some years now, there are those that object to its use, specifically because it is not a natural material and because it is flammable. Also, some people may not be comfortable wearing a garment made from microfiber material.
